Formed in 2018 by students at the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Ensemble Renard takes its name from Igor Stravinsky’s Opera of the same title. The ensemble aims to add to the existing canon of Wind Quintet repertoire by performing lesser known works, not unlike their namesake, of established composers including Thea Musgrave, Oliver Knussen and Hans Abrahamsen. In 2019, Ensemble Renard won the Nicholas Blake Prize at the Royal Academy of Music, with a performance of Thea Musgrave’s Wind Quintet. They are equally at home performing traditional repertoire, arrangements of familiar tunes and lesser known works.
They have received coaching from several esteemed musicians, including principal members of the Philharmonia and the London Sinfonietta.
